Below is a letter from the Surfing Association of Nova Scotia (SANS) regarding the introduction of annual memberships:
In the past, membership in the Surfing Association of Nova Scotia (SANS) had always been fairly informal resulting in some uncertainty and confusion among people in the surf community about whether they were a member of SANS.
We also receive a lot of emails from people asking about how they can become a member.
To address these concerns, and to increase membership, strengthen our relationship with members, and improve the quality of benefits we offer our members, SANS released a Membership Strategy last year.
As part of this new strategy, we have decided to formalize our membership program by introducing annual memberships. The annual membership fee will be $20 and, in return, members receive discounts on SANS contests and events, a subscription to our newsletter, and a SANS T-shirt.
SANS is a non-profit organization and the funds we collect from membership fees go directly back into the surfing community as we work to: (1) build an inclusive, fun and respectful surf community; (2) support recreational and amateur surfing; and (3) promote coastal access and stewardship.
We will be launching the new membership program at the Surf Jam at the Seahorse on February 25, 2011. Memberships will also be available on our website shortly afterwards, and at future SANS events.
