School bus rear-ended in Hammonds Plains

Halifax District RCMP is investigating after a school bus was rear-ended in Hammonds Plains yesterday morning.

At 7:30 a.m. on April 8, Halifax District RCMP was dispatched to a two-vehicle collision involving a school bus and a Jeep Cherokee on St. George Blvd. in Hammonds Plains.

A preliminary investigation revealed that the bus was stopped at a designated school bus stop with its lights and stop sign activated. The Jeep, which was travelling behind the bus, did not stop in time and collided with the rear of the bus. One bus driver and twenty-one children were aboard the bus at the time. No one was injured in either vehicle.

The driver of the Jeep was issued a Summary Offence Ticket.

The investigation is ongoing.

The RCMP wishes to remind motorists that they must stop when they approach a school bus with its red lights flashing and stay stopped until the lights turn off. Failing to do so can mean a first offense fine of $410 and six points on a licence.
