HRP is a proud supporter of School Bus Safety Week, October 16-20. We’ll be at extra checkpoints this week helping to make people aware of the dangers of passing a school bus with red lights flashing. As always, we’ll also be enforcing motor vehicle regulations.

Remember that passing a stopped school bus in either direction puts kids in danger, is illegal and carries stiff fines. There is no careful way to pass a stopped school bus. Also, please slow down when approaching a school bus with flashing amber lights and prepare to stop. Failing to do so is illegal.

Did you know?
– When a school bus is stopped on a multi-lane road, drivers must stop in all directions, in all lanes.
– Under the Motor Vehicle Act, failing to stop for a stopped school bus with red lights flashing carries a fine ranging from $410 for a first offence to $1272.50 for a third or subsequent offence.
