En-route to the police station the male appeared to have swallowed an unknown substance.
The officer pulled the police car to a vacant lot near Cascades Day Spa to check the status of the male. The male forced his way out of the police car by striking the officer in the head with a blunt object.
The officer attempted to gain control of the male who was attempting to escape. In the struggle both the officer and suspect ended up on the Bedford Highway facing oncoming traffic.
At this point two citizens stepped in to help. The suspect was controlled and handcuffed by the officer. Both the suspect and the police officer suffered injuries and were taken to the hospital for treatment. The injuries are believed to be non-life threatening.
The Integrated General Investigation Section are investigating the incident at this time.
