Seaport Farmers Market Pondering New Business Strategy

Halifax Seaport Farmers' Market

The Halifax Seaport Farmers Market is looking for new ways to drum up business during the week. CBC.ca is reporting that the Market's board of directors have approached a U.S. consulting firm to help them revaluate their current business model and strategize a possible new plan.

According to the news article since making the move to being open six days a week, board members and vendors are concerned at the slow foot traffic during the Monday to Friday lull. Weekends at the market continue to draw large, profitable crowds, but one vendor — Graeme Ruppell of Getaway Meat Mongers tells CBC that "There might have been an overreach to go from a one-day , one-afternoon market straight into a six-day market."

New York consultant Project for Public Spaces suggests that the market cut back its hours to Saturday and Sunday and possibly a day or two throughout the week, while revising regulations for vendors — several of whom express in the article support for a fresh outside perspective.

Haligonia, tell us how you'd like to see the Market operate to maximize the profitability of its new location. Read the full story here: http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/nova-scotia/story/2011/11/08/ns-seaport-market-help.html
