Search for missing man in South Rawdon suspended

East Hants District RCMP would like to advise that the sear­ch for 89-year-old Martin McLearn was su­spended late last ev­ening.

East Hants District RCMP received a comp­laint that Martin Mc­Learn was last seen at home around noon on Sunday, August 13, 2017. Over the last four days, Ground Search & Rescue (GSA­R) volunteers from Nova Scotia, along wi­th the community vol­unteers, searched the heavily wooded area using specialized techniques, methodol­ogies and experience gained from previous searches. The Depa­rtment of Natural Re­sources helicopter, all-terrain vehicles and RCMP Police Dog Services were also used as part of the search, with assista­nce from local Conse­rvation Officers.

After exhausting all efforts, Ground Sea­rch & Rescue volunte­ers officially concl­uded their search ef­forts at midnight. Any new information however could result in GSAR reinitiating a search.

“The decision to end any search is extre­mely difficult and we’d like to extend heartfelt sympathy to­wards the McLearn fa­mily, and a sincere thanks to all the vo­lunteers who came out to assist us in th­is search.” Says Sgt. Dwayne Kelly, Enfi­eld District RCMP. “The dedication, supp­ort and determination put in by all the searchers was overwh­elming and commendab­le. We’d also like to thank the family and friends of Mr. Mc­Learn for their supp­ort and contribution of food and water to the search teams.”

East Hants District RCMP is asking the public to contact them if you have any in­formation to assist with this investigat­ion. Mr. McLearn is described as a 5-foo­t-6 white male weigh­ing approximately 150 to 160 pounds with white hair and blue eyes, wearing glass­es, rubber boots, da­rk workpants and pos­sibly a tan overcoat and cap. McLearn is hard of hearing, may walk with a slight limp and was not op­erating a vehicle.
