Search leads to seizure of over 100,000 illegal cigarettes

A man is facing charges after a search yesterday at a business in Halifax.
 
Shortly before noon, Patrol and Community Response Officers, assisted by compliance and special investigations staff from Service Nova Scotia and Municipal Relations (SNSMR), executed a search warrant at a business in the 5400 block of Portland Place. Officers seized over 100,000 illegal cigarettes, a large quantity of marijuana, cash and drug paraphernalia. A man was arrested at the scene without incident.
 
A 55-year-old man from Halifax is facing one count of possession of drugs for the purpose of trafficking and numerous charges under the Nova Scotia Provincial Revenue Act. He was released from custody and will appear in Halifax Provincial Court on March 25.
 
SNSMR is responsible for the administration of tobacco taxes and its compliance and special investigations unit works with its partners in law enforcement to combat contraband tobacco.
