As part of the holiday releases, Sephora has a Nail Blockbuster set, featuring 10 Color Hit nail polish, a multi-coloured glitter top coat, a jar of Star Jewels and a little booklet of nail art tutorials.
Forgive me for using a stock pic here to show you how the set looks. Due to the length of the panel, I cannot fit it in the shot without making the bottles too small to see.
The Color Hit nail polish in the set:
– Sugar Coated (pink nude), Spread the Word (hot pink leaning tomato red), Pole Dance (darker red), New Year’s Resolution (purple), Happy Hour! (blue)
– Keep Me Posted! (teal), Banana Split (yellow), Never Say No (beige taupe), Black Lace (black) and Get What You Want (clear).
The bottles are small (0.16oz/ 5ml, reg. $6 each) with a flat rectangular shape, so are the caps. The brush is wide and slightly angled. Pigmentation varies among shades. See below for some NOTDs.
On the far right is the glitter top coat in Party Animal and the Star Jewels, will be featured in more NOTDs soon.
The first mani is inspired by a tutorial in the booklet.
I used New Year’s Resolution and Happy Hour! as I like blue and purple together. Noted that both colours are darker IRL, my camera decided it did not like anything with purple tone in it.
I freehanded the French tips cause I thought I could do it. Turned out I was wrong lol. Also, each shade took two coats to be opaque, so the mani got so thick and goopy.
I also made a mistake of using the clear shade (Get What You Want) as a top coat. The mani took forever to dry, and I woke up with sheet marks on my nails. For someone who doesn’t franken, I don’t know what to do with a clear nail polish.
Anyway, I didn’t give up and tried another French mani, this time with Spread the Word and Banana Split. Let’s pretend it is candy corn 🙂
The good news is Spread the Word is a one coater, and the colour is hot – a pinky red, darker than how it looks here. Banana Split however took 2 coats, but not bad for a yellow.
I even used tape to make the tips this time, but in pulling it out after painting the nails, the edges still smudged randomly. Told you I am not one with the nail art skills.
Stay tuned for more (better) manis done with colours in this set. If you decide to check it out, it retails for $43, a Limited Edition.
