September Contest

The Surfing Association of Nova Scotia (SANS) is planning to hold its annual fall contest on the Labour Day weekend at Lawrencetown Beach. Dubbed the “Shut up and Surf Classic”, this contest won’t have any gear to win or big cash prizes. The idea is to get back to the basics: fun, simple competition among friends.

Registration is now open and will close August 31. You can register at Dacane, Happy Dudes, If Only and Kannon Beach surf shops. The cost is $20, plus $10 for each additional division. The number of surfers in each division will be limited, so if you plan to compete be sure to sign up soon. To see a list of the divisions and a draft schedule of the heats,

In addition to Men’s, Women’s, Longboard and Junior’s divisions, there will also be menehunes (kids) and masters (35+) divisions. Finalists in each division will receive points toward qualifying for the 2010 International Surfing Association (ISA) World Games.

The goal is to hold the contest in quality surf conditions, so if there are no waves on the long weekend, the contest will be put on hold until the next available weekend with good surf. In past years we’ve been lucky with waves on the long weekend, but a few times we’ve had to wait until October. Please keep this in mind when registering for the contest!

To accommodate the multiple divisions, we will be running simultaneous heats in different contest zones (i.e. reef, beachbreak, and/or point). This means that we’ll need more hands to help out. If you are interested in lending a hand, email us at: contest@surfns.com

Following the contest, there will be an after-party to announce the winners.

Stay tuned to the SANS website (SurfNS.com) for updates on the contest date and schedule.

Hope to see you in the water!
