September Traffic Unit Update

In their continued effort to address road safety and educate citizens on the rules of the road, the HRP/RCMP Integrated Traffic Unit is focusing on traffic safety in school zones during the month of September.

During ‘Operation School Zone,’ officers are targeting speeding in school zones and also monitoring crosswalks in areas surrounding schools, universities and colleges. Citizens are reminded to be aware of school zones and corresponding crosswalks, and exercise care in these areas to help ensure the safety of our children.

Citizens who enjoy cycling, rollerblading and skateboarding, particularly students from out of town who may not be aware of Nova Scotia laws, are reminded that helmets must be worn when participating in any wheeled activity.

Throughout August, the Unit focused on speed surveillance and cell phone enforcement. A total of 1473 Summary Offence Tickets were issued during the month, including 811 for speeding and 169 for cell phone violations.
