Serious attack on youth in Halifax leads to aggravated assault charges

Halifax Regional Police has laid charges in relation to an assault on a youth that occurred earlier this month in Halifax.

On January 5 police received a report of an assault that had occurred that day in a wooded area near the 200 block of Thomas Raddall Drive. Between 12 p.m. and 1 p.m., a youth was assaulted by a group of youths. A separate group of youths later discovered the victim and brought them to a nearby school. The victim was taken to hospital for treatment of serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

Officers arrested one of the suspects on January 17 and a second suspect on January 18 at residences in Halifax.

A 16-year-old youth and 19-year-old Rimon Bereket Habteselassie are scheduled to appear in Halifax provincial court to face charges of aggravated assault.
