Serious injuries during arrest in Cole Harbour; SiRT begins investigation

The Serious Incident Response Team (SiRT) is investigating a matter involving a serious injury sustained by an adult male during an arrest in Cole Harbour, Nova Scotia.

Preliminary information suggests the following:

On the afternoon of June 26, 2025, members of the RCMP responded to a residential call in Cole Harbour.
An adult male on the property was no longer welcome and refused to leave. He resisted arrest and was taken to the ground by police.
The male complained of back and elbow plain and was brought to the hospital where he was diagnosed with a fractured elbow.

Due to the serious injury sustained by the male, SiRT has assumed responsibility for this investigation.

SiRT is responsible for investigating all matters that involve death, serious injury, sexual assault and intimate partner violence or other matters of a public interest to be investigated that may have arisen from the actions of any police officer, on or off duty, in Nova Scotia or New Brunswick. Investigations are under the direction and control of an independent civilian director, who has the sole authority to determine if charges should be laid at the conclusion of an investigation.
