Nova Scotians who use service dogs will be better protected from discrimination by the Service Dog Act which will come into effect on June 27th.
The Service Dog Act will uphold the rights and responsibilities of service dog users and help prevent people being denied access to public places and refused tenancy rights.
The act established a registrar to oversee standards to help people and businesses determine which service dog users qualify for rights protection. The act also outlines penalties for denying rights and for falsely representing a service dog team.
