Service impacts due to forecasted weather event – Friday, Sept. 6

The​ Halifax Regional Municipality is advising residents of the following impacts to municipal services as Hurricane Dorian heads for our region.​

Halifax Transit:

Halifax Transit bus, Access-A-Bus and ferry service will be suspended as of noon on Saturday, Sept. 7 with a tentative resumption date of no earlier than Sunday, Sept. 8 at noon. An update will be provided on Sunday morning.

Please note: The last ferry to Halifax will depart from Dartmouth at 11:30 a.m. Saturday. The last ferry to Dartmouth will depart from Halifax at 11:45 a.m. on Saturday.

Recreation Programming:

Municipal splash pads and the Emera Oval will be closed Saturday, Sept. 7 and the Youth Live Enviro Depot originally scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 7 has been cancelled.

The Centennial Pool will be closed on both Saturday, Sept. 7 and Sunday, Sept. 8. Staff will assess the situation on Sunday with regards to opening on Monday.

Other recreation facilities may be closed over the weekend. Please call ahead to your individual facility before heading out.

Solid Waste:

The Household Special waste depot at the Bayer’s Lake facility and the mobile Household Special Waste event at Oyster Pond Academy scheduled for Sept. 7 will both be cancelled.

The municipal Refuse Depots located in Sheet Harbour and Middle Musquodoboit will be closed Saturday, Sept. 7.

The largest threat to homes and property is flying debris. Please move umbrellas and patio furniture inside and remove anything that high winds could pick up such as garbage containers/bags, flower pots, toys etc.

** This is a PSA to notify residents of Halifax that the Canadian Blood Services donor centre at 7071 Bayers Road, Halifax, will be closed on Saturday due to Hurricane Dorian.

All pre-booked donors will be notified of their appointment cancellation.
