Halifax District RCMP, assisted by a Halifax Regional Police K-9 Unit and the Nova Scotia Department of Natural Resources (DNR), helped locate a missing 70-year-old man who had become lost in the woods while he was out hunting on November 6.
The man became lost in the woods around 10 a.m. He started out near his hunting blind near Preeper Pond, off Perrin Dr. and was not able to find his way back. He called a family member around 4:30 p.m. to let them know he was lost. A friend went to the area and tried to find him, but after two hours of searching, he called police for assistance.
Shortly after 7:30 p.m., RCMP officers and an HRP K-9 unit arrived at the scene. Police were able to contact the man’s cell phone provider and get his approximate location from his cell signal. Police officers and DNR personnel located a track and searched the area for two hours. They located the 70-year-old man after two hours of searching. He walked out partway, then was given a ride on all-terrain vehicle.
At 2 a.m., approximately 16 hours after becoming lost, the man and the searchers returned to the trail entrance. The man was checked and cleared by EHS, and other than being tired, was unharmed. The RCMP would like to thank their partners who assisted in this search and their efforts in bringing it to a successful resolution.
