Via Environment Canada:
At 12:07 PM ADT on Sunday, July 21, 2024, Environment Canada issued a warning about favourable conditions for the development of severe thunderstorms across central mainland Nova Scotia. These thunderstorms have the potential to produce strong wind gusts of 70-90 km/h, heavy rainfall rates of 15-25 mm per hour, and small hail up to 1 cm in diameter.
The time span for these severe weather conditions is expected to be later this afternoon and early evening.
Localized downpours and very strong wind gusts may accompany some of the thunderstorms, potentially causing flash floods and water pooling on roads. Loose objects may be tossed by the wind, posing additional hazards. Intense lightning is also likely with any thunderstorm that develops. Residents are urged to monitor alerts and forecasts issued by Environment Canada.
To report severe weather, individuals can send an email to NSstorm@ec.gc.ca or tweet using #NSStorm. This warning is specifically in effect for Halifax Metro and Halifax County West.
