Severe thunderstorm watch (Posted Aug 9 3:30am)

Conditions are favourable for the development of severe thunderstorms that may be capable of producing heavy rain.

Potential rainfall rates: 25 to 35 mm per hour or higher in thunderstorms.

Locations: western and central Nova Scotia.

Time span: continuing until this morning.

Remarks: A line of strong thunderstorms is moving through western Nova Scotia and will continue to move east this morning. Torrential downpours may accompany these thunderstorms.

Heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads.

Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year. Remember, when thunder roars, go indoors!

Severe thunderstorm watches are issued when atmospheric conditions are favourable for the development of thunderstorms that could produce one or more of the following: large hail, damaging winds, torrential rainfall.
