Selma Hortense Burke ( 1900-1995) is one of the few African-American women sculptors who achieved a high level of national recognition during her lifetime.
I’ve recently come across some photos from the Smithsonian Peter A. Juley & Son Collection. The collection comprises the work of 11,000 American artists and the portraits of almost 5,000, some of which are on Flickr. I thought I would share a few. You can click on the pictures for more info. I am fascinated with old photos.
