Shelburne RCMP charge man for impaired driving by a drug, Town of Shelburne, N.S.

As a result of information received, Shelburne RCMP arrested a local man for impaired driving by a drug.

At approximately 1 a.m. this morning, Shelburne County Street Crime Enforcement Unit (SCEU), with assistance from Shelburne Detachment, located and arrested a Shelburne resident for driving a motor vehicle while impaired by a drug.

The man was taken to Shelburne Detachment where a local RCMP officer qualified as a Drug Recognition Expert continued the investigation. A small quantity of marijuana was also located and seized from the man’s vehicle. ‘Impaired driving, by a drug or alcohol, continues to be one of the leading causes of serious injury and fatal collisions on Nova Scotia’s roadways’ says Sgt Ben Parry, Commander of the Shelburne Detachment.

The 24-year-old man was later released and is scheduled to appear in Shelburne Provincial Court on May 29th, 2014. He is facing charges of Impaired Operation of a Motor Vehicle while Impaired by drug and Possession of Marijuana. The investigation is continuing.
