Sherbrooke Village to Host an Old Fashioned Christmas

Sherbrooke Village’s annual, award-winning Old Fashioned Christmas celebration will once again enchant visitors with a spectacular opening night tree lighting at a new location.

The event will run on two consecutive weekends, Nov. 24-26 and Dec. 2-3.

This year the official tree lighting has been relocated to St. James Presbyterian Church lawn at 7 p.m. followed by the traditional candlelight procession to the performance centre, all within Sherbrooke Village gates.

A visit from Santa and a fireworks display will round off the opening evening on Nov. 24. There will be hot chocolate and treats available. Opening night last year attracted more than 7,500 visitors with a total of 11,500 over two weekends.

“This is a very emotional and exciting year for Sherbrooke Village Old Fashioned Christmas with lots of changes, but all of them for the better,” said committee chairperson Heather Laybolt. “With the number of visitors growing steadily we will keep all activities within the village gates, so people can experience the magical feeling of Christmas from days gone by in a fun and safe manner.”

New events include visits to Whoville, an ultimate Santa race, and guided lantern tours of the village. Another wow factor this year will be the spectacular lighting of more than 50,000 lights adding to the festival ambience between Nov. 24 and Jan. 6, 2018. That is twice as many lights on display as in previous years. The lights will be on daily from 5-10 p.m.

Other activities include the annual Jingle Run/Walk, closing parade, and dance.

During its 24 years of celebration, the Old Fashioned Christmas at Sherbrooke Village has attracted thousands of visitors and been named one of Nova Scotia’s top events in by the Tourism Industry Association of Nova Scotia.
