A 19-year-old male from Timberlea is facing multiple charges after his decision to side-swipe a moving police car and flee from the scene, resulted in a collision and his subsequent arrest.
Just after 2:00 a.m. on Saturday morning, Halifax District RCMP were responding to a complaint in Boutiliers Point, when a responding officer met a vehicle on the wrong side of the road. The vehicle struck the police car and sped off. The vehicle, a 2001 Honda Odyssey van, was located in the ditch a short time later after it left the road and crashed in to a utility pole. Both the driver and the police officer were assessed by EHS at the scene for minor injuries.
The 19-year-old driver is facing charges for Dangerous Operation of Motor Vehicle, Assault Peace Officer with a Weapon, Flight from Police, and Fail to Remain at an Accident. The investigation is continuing with other charges pending against the driver.
