SiRT Clears Halifax Police Officer in Incident Leading to Serious Injuries

SiRT release:

The Interim Director of the Serious Incident Response Team (SiRT) found no reasonable grounds to believe that a Halifax Regional Police (HRP) officer committed a criminal offence in connection with an incident that resulted in a man suffering serious injuries.

On April 6, 2023, HRP contacted the SiRT after receiving a complaint from a man who alleged he had sustained serious injuries as a result of his interactions with an HRP officer. The incident was alleged to have occurred on March 20, 2023.

During the investigation, evidence was collected and analyzed, and interviews were conducted with the man and others, including 11 civilian witnesses and six witness police officers.
