SIRT Investigating After Death Of Barricaded Man On South Park Street

Halifax Regional Police has referred an incident that occurred this afternoon to the Serious Incident Response Team (SiRT) for investigation.

Patrol Officers were investigating a missing person file after receiving information that a 27-year-old male patient, who may have presented a danger to himself, was missing from Capital Health’s Nova Scotia Hospital site. At 1:30 p.m. officers attended the man’s address in the 1000 block of South Park Street in an attempt to locate him. When officers realized the apartment door had been barricaded, they were forced to breach the door, after which they observed the man on the balcony. Minutes later, the man went over the balcony, landing on a platform below. EHS transported him to hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries.

This matter has been referred to SiRT for investigation as its members are responsible for investigating all serious incidents involving police in Nova Scotia, whether or not there is an allegation of wrongdoing. Questions regarding the investigation are to be referred to SiRT.
