SiRT release:
The Serious Incident Response Team (SiRT) is investigating a matter involving the discharge of a firearm by a member of the RCMP which resulted in the death of an adult female in Eastern Passage, Nova Scotia.
On the afternoon of October 14, 2025 SiRT was contacted by RCMP regarding an officer involved shooting. Preliminary information suggests the following:
- The RCMP responded to a call at a residence in Eastern Passage related to a physical assault.
- An adult female was located and was in possession of a knife.
- The female did not comply with officer’s commands to drop the knife. Officers discharged a conducted energy weapon (CEW/Taser).
- The female continued to approach with a knife. An officer discharged their firearm, striking the female. She was pronounced deceased soon after.
SiRT is responsible for investigating all matters that involve death, serious injury, sexual assault and intimate partner violence or other matters of a public interest to be investigated that may have arisen from the actions of any police officer, on or off duty, in Nova Scotia and New Brunswick. Investigations are under the direction and control of an independent civilian director, who has the sole authority to determine if charges should be laid at the conclusion of an investigation.
