SIRT Investigating Recent Halifax Regional Police Arrest

Halifax Regional Police has referred an incident that occurred yesterday to the Serious Incident Response Team (SIRT) for investigation.

At approximately 5:30 p.m. officers attended an address on Springhill Road in Dartmouth looking for a 33-year-old man who was in breach of court-imposed conditions. Officers located the man and arrested him for breaching his court-imposed order and, resisting arrest. While the man was held in custody at police headquarters during the night, he reported that his hand was injured. He was taken to a hospital, treated for what was a broken hand and, returned to police custody. He will appear in Dartmouth Provincial Court later today.

As this incident resulted in injuries following police involvement, Halifax Regional Police contacted SIRT. SIRT is conducting an investigation into this matter. Any questions about their investigation should be directed to SIRT.
