SIRT Investigation Of Portapique Shooting Suspect Begins

Overnight Saturday, RCMP members responded to a series of serious criminal events in Colchester County. The male suspect fled the area. On Sunday morning, the suspect was involved in a serious criminal event in Shubenacadie.  A confrontation with police followed in Enfield, resulting in officers discharging their firearms. The suspect was found to be deceased at the scene.

SiRT was contacted by RCMP and has assumed responsibility for the investigation of the shooting of the suspect. SIRT is responsible for investigating all serious incidents involving police in Nova Scotia, whether or not there is an allegation of wrongdoing. Investigations are under the direction and control of SiRT’s independent civilian director.

The Police Act requires the director to file a public report summarizing the results of the investigation within three months after it is finished.
