The Interim Director of the Serious Incident Response Team (SiRT) found no reasonable grounds to believe that two members of the Halifax Regional Police (HRP) committed a criminal offence in connection with the death of a man in May.
HRP responded to a 911 call on May 27, 2023, regarding a man with a loaded bow and arrow at the Maybank Park in Dartmouth. When police arrived, he pointed the loaded bow at officers, despite being repeatedly told to drop his weapon. The officers acted to defend themselves and other officers from a reasonably apprehended threat when they each discharged one shot from their firearms, which struck the man. Medical attention was provided on scene.
