Students in Yarmouth are one step closer to getting a new, modern school.
The new Yarmouth Elementary School in the Tri-County Regional School Board will be located on the site of the former Yarmouth Junior High School. No classes are held at the site now.
“The former Yarmouth Junior High School site represents the best option for students, teachers and staff,” said Education and Early Childhood Development Minister Karen Casey. “This location is more accessible for students and the local community, and puts more students within a comfortable walking distance to the school when compared to the other choices.
“This location also allows us to incorporate the existing large gymnasium into the design of the new facility.”
The selection is based on a review of three sites submitted by the school board. The review was conducted by the departments of Education and Early Childhood Development and Transportation and Infrastructure Renewal.
A request for proposals for the design of the school is expected soon.
