Are you sure you’re okay to drive the morning after a holiday party? Just because you’ve had a nap or a few hours’ sleep it does not mean you’re sober enough to get behind the wheel.
“Alcohol consumption influences every individual differently,” says Cst. Mark Skinner of Nova Scotia RCMP Traffic Services. “Sleeping after drinking doesn’t guarantee you’re safe to drive a vehicle.”
There are many factors involved when considering the effects of alcohol on the body, including what was consumed, the frequency of the drinks, the length of time during which alcohol was consumed, whether the person has eaten, and the individual’s overall metabolism.
The Nova Scotia RCMP are asking people to be responsible and think first before getting behind the wheel. In addition, if you are hosting a party or you are the passenger in a vehicle, ask yourself whether the person is sober before you let them drive away.
If you think you spot an impaired driver, call 911. Tell the dispatcher where you are, and provide a description of the vehicle, including the license plate number, color, make and model, the direction of travel for the vehicle, and a description of the driver.
