Monday, Feb. 8, 2016 (Halifax, NS) – Due to the blizzard expected to hit the Halifax region today and tomorrow, the Halifax Regional Municipality has decided to cancel curbside collection of garbage, organics, and recyclables on Tuesday, Feb. 9.
Please do not place materials curbside for collection tomorrow. Residents who normally have collection on Tuesday will be permitted to put out twice the normal bag limit on their next scheduled collection day in two weeks’ time.
We cannot reschedule tomorrow’s pickup as this is a holiday weekend and collection is already scheduled for other areas on Saturday.
Garbage, organics, and recyclables collection for today will go ahead as scheduled. Residents who regularly have collection on Monday are asked to move their waste out of the path of snow-clearing equipment, if possible.
The municipality is also advising residents and commercial solid waste haulers that due to this weather, the following Solid Waste facilities will be closed on Tuesday:
- Otter Lake waste processing & disposal facilities at 600 Otter Lake Dr.
- Recycling materials recovery facility at 20 Horseshoe Lake Dr.
- Composting facilities at 80 Gloria McCluskey Ave. in Burnside and 61 Evergreen Place in Goodwood
In lieu of the closure Tuesday, these facilities will be open extended operating hours on Saturday, Feb. 13.
The municipality regrets any inconvenience these cancellations may cause and we thank residents for their cooperation. For more information on Solid Waste services, please visit www.halifax.ca/recycle or call 311.
