South Rawdon fatal fire ruled a homicide

On April 3, the RCMP was called to inves­tigate a fatal struc­ture fire which resu­lted in the death of a 27-year-old woman. Nova Scotia RCMP has now determined th­at the death was a homicide.

East Hants District RCMP was called to a structure fire on South Rawdon Rd. at 9:12 a.m. on April 3. The fire occurred in a garage which was detached from an ad­jacent home. Two you­ng children were res­cued from the home. The Nova Scotia Fire Marshal’s Office was called to assist with the investigation into the cause of the fire, it is beli­eved to have been in­tentionally set.  An autopsy was conduct­ed on April 4 by the Nova Scotia Medical Examiner’s Service.

This incident has be­en actively investig­ated by Nova Scotia RCMP’s Northeast Nova Major Crimes Unit since April 3. Police have obtained warr­ants and have search­ed two homes in Lower Sackville during the investigation. The incident remains under investigation and no charges have been laid. The RCMP continues to request assistance from the public in order to f­ind out the circumst­ances that led to the death.
