Saturday at the Farmers’ Market

I think this may actually be my first Saturday post since I started YourInnerSkinny. I’ve decided to start writing on Saturdays (maybe Sunday as well) a bit and write in more of a blogging type post about the awesome things I do during the day as apposed to my regular article type posts.

I found out a few weeks ago that Gina had never been to the Halifax Farmers’ Market before (I know, right?) so we decided that the first weekend I had free, that we would go.  Because of my bum ankle I didn’t play in the volleyball tourney this weekend in the Valley so we planned to hit up the market.

I’ve been saying for a while that I want to start buying and eating local and fresh, so this was the goal for today, buy fresh and local produce. What stupid me didn’t realise is that it’s only Mid-May and there probably isn’t much fresh produce around and that the produce I wanted (like peppers, onions, carrots, etc…) wouldn’t be there… AND unfortunately I was right.

To be honest, we didn’t really care that much. I just wanted Gina to see what it was like at the market (she said it was overwhelming but she liked it) and get her use to it, because I REALLY want to start going early on Saturdays and get our fruits and veggies there.

The market was a great way to spend our Saturday morning. We were one of those cute couples, holding hands and walking on eachother’s shoes (Gina walking on the back of my flip flops actually) that everyone hates. I met and chatted with Brent, the flax man from Omega Crunch, gave him a card hopefully I’ll be chatting with him a bit more down the road. I ended up buying some flax too. The original Maple and their new Garlic (SO GOOD!). Gina got some Cat grass for her cat Milo (to which I kind of hope he eats and throws up because I’ll laugh at her). All in all a great first experience at the market!

After the market, we decided to hit up lululemon to try on some stuff. I’ve never actually tried on any clothes at lulu before besides one shirt and a few hoodies so I decided to try on a pair of pants and a pair of shorts. I really liked the shorts and I’ll be heading back for them, but the pants fit me funny. Gina didn’t try anything because she said she’s the type that if she likes it, she’ll buy it and didn’t want to spend the money on new clothes today.

We’ve just been chillin’ most of the afternoon. Doing some dishes, cleaning up and I made some chicken. We watched some more episodes of our new favorite show, ‘Spartacus’ and we’re just about to watch the season finale. (I’ve been waiting 2 weeks while we re-watched the whole season so Gina could catch up. I’m a good boyfriend, I know!)

Tonight we’re heading to my best friends place for his 29th and we’re throwing him a surprise party. There’s no worry about the surprise ruined by writing this because he doesn’t read my blog, ha ha.

I hope you all have had a GREAT Saturday and have a fantastic weekend.
