The Nova Scotia SPCA has established the province’s first full service, not-for-profit veterinary facility. The newly renovated animal hospital is open and accepting new patients. Located at 7 Scarfe Court in Dartmouth, families can book services including medical, surgical, wellness and preventive health care. Appointments can be made by contacting the SPCA Veterinary Hospital at vet@spcans.ca or 902-706-4155.
The SPCA Veterinary Hospital was made possible by consecutive grant funding from PetSmart Charities® of Canada totaling $215,000. With the help of this funding, the Nova Scotia SPCA invested in state-of-the-art diagnostic tools, technology and equipment and will make services affordable for everyone in Nova Scotia. More details can be found at www.spcavet.ca.
“We are thankful for PetSmart Charities of Canada’s support and excited to accept new patients,” said Elizabeth Murphy, CEO of the Nova Scotia SPCA. “With more than 45 years of combined comprehensive veterinary knowledge, you can trust your pet with the SPCA Veterinary Hospital team. We look forward to providing your pet with the care they need to be a healthy and happy part of your family.”
“We are proud to support the expansion of accessible pet health and wellness care in Nova Scotia,” said Dani LaGiglia, regional relationship manager at PetSmart Charities of Canada. “This updated facility will be instrumental in providing care to pets in traditionally underrepresented communities, such as senior pet guardians and members of Indigenous communities, ensuring veterinary care is not a financial barrier.”
Thanks to a separate gift of $10,000, the Sunshine Fund, sponsored by Queenidog, was created to help pet owners in financial crisis with their veterinary needs. The fund will be used to subsidize the cost of emergency medical care at the SPCA Veterinary Hospital. Families in need can contact the SPCA Veterinary Hospital to discuss a solution. Because this funding is limited, the Nova Scotia SPCA is seeking donations to the Sunshine Fund to grow their ability to help loving families in need.
