Stabbing might have been random

The stabbing that occurred in the parking lot of the Village Centre plaza in Bedford on Tuesday night might have been a random act.

“There is no indication at this time that the victim and the suspect knew each other,” Halifax Regional Police Constable Brian Palmeter told the Bedford Beacon.

According to police, a 20-year-old man was sitting in his vehicle by the Scotiabank when group of males drove into the parking lot in a Volvo sedan.

The driver of the Volvo and a passenger got out of the car, at which point the passenger made eye contact with the man sitting in his vehicle. Words were then exchanged. The passenger then walked over to the vehicle and stabbed the man, who was still seated, in the chest.

The suspect then fled the scene with his friends.

The victim managed to walk to the Tim Horton’s where he collapsed. He was taken to hospital and was in “very serious condition,” said Palmeter. According to police, the stabbing track missed vital organs and the victim is expected to recover.

The suspect is described as a white male, 18 to 22 years old. The suspect vehicle is described as a dark blue, older model, four-door Volvo sedan with a Nova Scotia licence plate.

Anybody with information on this crime is asked to contact Halifax Regional Police at 490-5016 or Nova Scotia Crime Stoppers (anonymous) at 1-800-222-TIPS.
