Staff Pick- The Memory Thief by Emily Colin

I decided to borrow The Memory Thief (M) after reading the back cover and thinking, “Hmm, how is this author going to weave this story together?” There seemed to be not one, not two, but three stories all connected by one of the two main characters; Maggie or Aidan.
I will confess, reading this book will cause waterworks, so beware when your are out in public. When a stranger wonders why you are crying and you say oh, it’s just the book, they tend to give you a weird look. (Unless they too read waterworks books!)
I didn’t know much about mountain climbing, so I found that along with strong, memorable characters, I learned about one seriously strenuous activity. Maggie and Aiden’s love will be felt to your core, as well as the strings of friendship J.C holds. And when you think how can the author make this story any more heartbreaking, haunting, and surreal, she brings in Nicholas and your heart melts all over again.

I loved the book and will be on the look out for more from Colin, and hoping it can stand up to the first.
Here are a couple read a likes for The Memory Thief:
Carry The One (M)
by Carol Anshaw
“Carry the One’ begins in the hours following Carmen’s wedding reception, when a car filled with stoned, drunk, and sleepy guests accidentally hits and kills a girl on a dark country road. For the next twenty-five years, those involved, including Carmen and her brother and sister, craft their lives in response to this single tragic moment.” – Publisher
Death in High Places (M)
by Jo Bannister
“Two friends embark on a climb of treacherous Anarchy Ridge but only one will make it down alive. Unjustly blamed for his friend’s haunting death, the other must run for his life as a mourning father seeks revenge” – Publisher
