“Stop and Lock” to be promoted on Crosswalk Safety Awareness Day, Nov. 15

Monday, Nov. 14, 2016 (Halifax, NS) – Tomorrow is Crosswalk Safety Awareness Day in the Halifax Regional Municipality, and residents are being encouraged to rethink their behaviour when it comes to crosswalk safety. Whether you’re driving, biking, or walking, never underestimate the power of eye contact. People are reminded to “Stop and Lock” by making eye contact at all intersections to prevent collisions.

As part of Crosswalk Safety Awareness Day, live art will be created to raise awareness of crosswalk safety, and launch a social media contest:

What:   Live art demonstration of Christian Toth’s interpretation of “Stop and Lock” crosswalk safety theme

When:  Tuesday, Nov. 15, 7:30 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. & 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.

Where: Alderney Landing, 2 Ochterloney Street, Dartmouth

“Stop and Lock” is the theme of this year’s Heads Up Halifax crosswalk safety campaign, designed to raise awareness about the responsibility shared by drivers, cyclists, and pedestrians when it comes to crossing the street safely. Heads Up Halifax and Crosswalk Safety Awareness Day both launched in 2014, as one element of the overall implementation of the municipality’s Pedestrian Safety Action Plan.
