Man Arrested in Theft of Poppy Money
 
A man was arrested in connection with an investigation into theft of
money raised during this year’s poppy campaign.
 
In the days leading up to Remembrance Day, three separate thefts of
poppy money occurred in Dartmouth, Hammonds Plains and Chester. As a
result of the surveillance video from the Dartmouth incident, police
received several tips as to the suspect’s identity. The man was
arrested at his residence without incident at approximately 9:30 a.m. on
November 27. Subsequent investigation determined that the man was
responsible for all three thefts.
 
A 44-year-old Beaverbank man faces three charges of theft and is
scheduled to appear in Dartmouth Provincial Court on February 1, 2011.

Police are looking for a man after a can of poppies – along with all the cash deposited to buy them – were stolen from a Tim Horton's outlet in Cole Harbour.

A man in his 50's can be seen taking the tray on surveillance video captured yesterday at the Tim Horton's location near Forrest Hill's Parkway. The store's supervisor, Lillis McInnis told CBC news when she saw the video, it brought her to tears.

"It really is emotional to me because Remembrance Day does mean a lot to me and it means a lot to the girls I work with. We support the vets and to think not only that our grandfathers or fathers-in-law fought for the war, we have younger ones over there now that's losing their life, and to have someone go and steal, to me — I can't believe it."

The public is asked to contact Police if they have any information about the suspect.
