Hazardous winter conditions are expected.

Location: most of Nova Scotia

Total snowfall: Near 15 cm for Counties in the Fundy region from Digby to Colchester. Near 20 to 25 cm for Counties along the Atlantic Coast from Yarmouth to Sydney as well as Pictou, Antigonish, and southern Inverness Counties.

Maximum wind gusts: 60 to 80 km/h from the northeast to northwest giving areas of blowing snow.

Time frame: Tuesday afternoon and Tuesday night for central and western Nova Scotia. Tuesday evening through Wednesday morning for eastern Nova Scotia including Cape Breton.

Remarks: A nor’easter passing south of the province will bring hazardous winter weather to the majority of Nova Scotia Tuesday afternoon through Wednesday morning. Temperatures will drop low enough after sunset on Tuesday to allow for the fresh snow and strong northerly winds to combine for near whiteout conditions in some areas.

As with all nor’easters a small change in the forecast track results in large changes in the snowfall forecast. This warning represents the current most probable scenario based on the past several days of forecast guidance and analysis. This alert and corresponding local forecasts will be updated periodically with the latest available most reasonable scenario.

Rapidly accumulating snow could make travel difficult over some locations. Visibility will be suddenly reduced to near zero at times in heavy snow and blowing snow.

Winter storm warnings are issued when multiple types of severe winter weather are expected to occur together.
