Storm watch: 20-30cm by Wednesday (Posted 3:42pm Feb 11)

Via Environment Canada:

A winter storm is forecast to pass south of Nova Scotia late Tuesday and early Wednesday, bringing significant impacts to the region. Snowfall accumulations of 20 to 30 cm are expected by noon Wednesday, with maximum wind gusts reaching northerly 60 to 70 km/h, causing areas of blowing snow. The storm will affect most of Nova Scotia, spreading across the province from Tuesday afternoon to evening, and conditions are expected to improve from west to east on Wednesday.

Forecast guidance indicates a nor’easter moving south of the province, likely resulting in substantial snowfall accumulation and reduced visibility due to blowing snow. The exact track of the storm could significantly affect the snowfall forecast, and updates will be provided as new information becomes available.

Following the storm, northeastern mainland Nova Scotia and northern Cape Breton could experience onshore flurries and snow squalls, with accumulating snow continuing into Thursday night. This could make travel difficult in some areas.

Public Safety Canada advises preparing an emergency kit and plan, including essentials such as drinking water, food, medicine, a first-aid kit, and a flashlight. For more information, visit getprepared.gc.ca.
