Colchester County RCMP and the Provincial Fire Marshal’s Office have deemed the structure fire that destroyed a large storage shed at the Stewiacke Home Hardware to be accidental.

On October 28th at approximately 8:30 p.m., RCMP received a 911 call advising one large storage shed at the Stewiacke Home Hardware was on fire. RCMP and fire departments from Brookfield, East Hants, Enfield and Stewiacke responded to this fire.

The Provincial Fire Marshal’s Office and the Insurance Bureau of Canada have completed their investigation and determined the fire was now considered accidental and not arson. Their investigation determined this incident was a case of a shouldering fire caused most likely by sparks generated from the cutting of ‘rebar’ pipe earlier in the day.
