Students Nova Scotia is excited to announce the official launch of its “Get Out The Vote Campaign”, a non-partisan, student-led, provincewide voter mobilization campaign.
“The objective of this campaign is to encourage all students in Nova Scotia to head to the polls on May 30th and ensure their voices are heard,” said Collette Robert, Chair at StudentsNS and SMU student.
In the 2015 federal election, students and youth came out to vote in full force – fighting the perception that students are apathetic. This campaign hopes to help students engage in the political process again. The timing of the election however, creates barriers to youth engagement.
“We are concerned that the lack of fixed election dates has left students out of this election,” said StudentsNS ED Sophie Helpard. “During the month of May students won’t be on campus, available to participate in campus polling, and could be absent from the province.”
6 campus student associations will be participating in the campaign, with the goal of getting thousands of students to pledge to vote.
