Police have charged a man with driving in excess of 50 km/h over the posted speed limit in the Halifax region today.

At approximately 7 a.m. a member of the Traffic Unit observed a car travelling at a high rate of speed on Wingate Drive in Sackville. The officer captured the vehicle’s speed at 155 km/h in a 70 km/h zone.

A 48-year-old Beaverbank man was ticketed for stunting under the Motor Vehicle Act, a charge that is automatically laid when a vehicle is travelling more than 50 km/h over the speed limit. In addition, the man was suspended from driving for seven days and the vehicle he was driving was seized and will be impounded for seven days.

The fine in Nova Scotia for stunting is $2,422.50 and six points are assigned to the driver’s record.
