Stunting: 67 km/hr and 63 km/hr over the limit

An 18-year-old man from Halifax has been charged with Stunting after driving 67 km/hr over the speed limit and a 24-year-old woman from P.E.I. has been charged with Stunting after driving 63 km/hr over the speed limit.

On August 6 at approximately 2:20 p.m., a member of the RCMP Southeast Traffic Service on Hwy. 118 spotted a car travelling at a high rate of speed. The officer activated the RADAR and measured the speed at 167 km/hr in a 100 km/hr zone, 67 km/hr over the speed limit. The officer stopped the car and charged the man with Stunting under the Nova Scotia Motor Vehicle Act.

On August 6 at approximately 5:40 p.m., a member of the RCMP Southeast Traffic Service on Hwy. 102 spotted a car travelling at a high rate of speed. The officer activated the RADAR and measured the speed at 173 km/hr in a 110 km/hr zone, 63 km/hr over the speed limit. The officer stopped the car and charged the woman with Stunting under the Nova Scotia Motor Vehicle Act.

As a part of being charged with Stunting, which carries a fine in Nova Scotia is $2,422.50, both drivers were issued an immediate seven-day driving suspension and each had their vehicles seized and impounded.

The RCMP want to remind the public that speed is one of the major causes of serious injury and fatal collisions on our roads. Road Safety is a priority for the RCMP, and drivers are reminded to make it their priority as well.
