Stunting driver clocked at 178 km/hr on Highway 107
On November 21 at 9 a.m. a member of Halifax District RCMP was travelling southbound on Hwy. 107 when they observed an oncoming vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed. The RADAR was activated and the speed measured at 178 km/h. The RCMP officer attempted a traffic stop. Despite emergency equipment being activated on the police vehicle, the target vehicle did not slow down as it passed by the police vehicle which was pulled over on the side of the road. The officer completed a U-turn and lost sight of the vehicle.
The vehicle was located a short time later on West Petpeswick Rd. in Musquodoboit Harbour. A traffic stop was initiated and the vehicle pulled over.
The 17-year-old male driver from Lake Echo was charged for Stunting and the vehicle was seized and towed from the scene.
The fine for stunting in Nova Scotia is $2,422.50. The RCMP want to remind the public that speed is one of the major causes of serious injury and fatal collisions on our roads. Road Safety is a priority for the RCMP, and drivers are reminded to make it their priority as well.
