We usually have some type of roasted meat along with taters and veggies each Sunday. It’s tradition and one that I always look forward to. Since my long run had changed days I decided to cook the big meal last night.
We had ham last week at our friend’s place and I realized that it’s been years since I cooked one of my own. Actually, Jason doesn’t think I’ve ever made one in the 9 years we’ve been together. I’m iffy, think there may have been one or two. :) To be honest the lack of ham is due to the high sodium content. But I don’t think eating it every 5 years is gonna hurt.
Enter the beast:
Mix up a little honey, mustard & apple cider vinegar for the glaze.
Cook 2.5 hours…. and while you wait, relax with glass of wine. My fav Jost Avondale Riseling Gold to be exact. (And prep the cheesy scalloped potatoes & carrots.)
Salty goodness my friends. Apparently I can still cook a mean ham.
And some wicked scalloped potatoes to boot! I just googled “scalloped potato recipes” and this one from CookingNook looked pretty good. I added 90g of grated old cheddar sprinkled throughout the layers and on top.
All served up… and ready to eat in front of the TV. 🙂
These were A.MAZ.ING. I mean, who doesn’t love a cheesy carb?
Hubby and I got settled in for the evening and thought it seemed like a good night for a movie. The DVR had little to offer and we ended up choosing The Box, which stars Cameron Diaz & James Marsden.
Norma and Arthur Lewis, a suburban couple with a young child, receive a simple wooden box as a gift, which bears fatal and irrevocable consequences. A mysterious stranger, delivers the message that the box promises to bestow upon its owner $1 million with the press of a button. But, pressing this button will simultaneously cause the death of another human being somewhere in the world; someone they don’t know. With just 24 hours to have the box in their possession, Norma and Arthur find themselves in the cross-hairs of a startling moral dilemma and must face the true nature of their humanity.
At first I really liked this movie, it’s set in the 70’s and Cameron has a really charming southern accent. :) About half way in the movie goes from eerie to just plain weird and sci-fi-y. And course, the ending left us with lots of unanswered questions. Not my cup of tea.

Hubby and I also tasted another couple of the Honeybars.
I’ve been really impressed with what I’ve tried so far. Along with the package they sent an information sheet about about the bars.
Some of the many wonderful facts:
I am officially a HUGE fan of the Sweet & Salty bar. – Peanuts, honey, peanut butter, almonds, almond butter, crisp brown rice, kosher salt.
And the hubby has deemed the Chocolaty Peanut Butter to be his fav.. so far.
