Support4Sport Grow Your Game Contest Winner Announced

The Cantley Village Recreation Association in Coxheath, Cape Breton, received a $10,000 cheque to build an outdoor skating rink in its neighborhood, today Sept. 20.

Bob MacKinnon, president and CEO, Nova Scotia Provincial Lotteries and Casino Corporation (NSPLCC), presented the cheque to the association for winning the grand prize in the Support4Sport Grow Your Game Video Contest.

The Grow Your Game contest asked entrants to create a one-minute video about how they would use $10,000 to benefit sport and their community. Ten of the entries were selected as finalists and Nova Scotians cast more than 31,150 votes to select the grand prize winner. Cantley Village Recreation Association will use the $10,000 to build an outdoor skating rink in its neighborhood.

“We were overwhelmed by the inspiring entries we received,” said Mr. MacKinnon. “Congratulations to all the entrants for their commitment to community sport across the province, especially the grand prize winner, Cantley Village Recreation Association.”

The Grow Your Game Contest marks the 10-year anniversary of NSPLCC’s Support4Sport program, a designated ticket lottery program where 100 per cent of profits go toward sport in Nova Scotia. The program has become the largest source of funding for amateur sport in Nova Scotia, raising more than $31 million in 10 years and helping thousands of athletes, coaches, officials and community groups grow their game. The allocation of funds is managed by the program partner, Sport Nova Scotia.

Since 2006, Support4Sport funding has been used to develop community and provincial sporting programs, buy sports equipment, and provide training and development opportunities for athletes, coaches and officials. In 2015-16, Support4Sport supported 191 athletes, 56 coaches and officials, and 95 community and provincial sport organizations that were able to reach more than 125,000 Nova Scotians with their programs.
