Suspect charged after Scotia Square assault, Barrington Street stabbing

Police have laid charges in relation to a robbery and a stabbing that occurred in Halifax yesterday.

On April 2 at approximately 6:10 p.m. police responded to a robbery that just had occurred inside the mall at Scotia Square. A man assaulted a person and took their property, and then left the area on foot.

At approximately 6:50 p.m. officers responded to an assault that had just occurred in the 2100 block of Barrington Street. A man matching the description of the suspect in the robbery stabbed another person who was known to him. The victim was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Officers arrested the suspect in the area a short time later. John Travis MacKinnon, 32, is scheduled to appear in Halifax provincial court today to face charges of:

  • Robbery
  • Assault causing bodily harm
  • Assault with a weapon
  • Possession of a weapon dangerous to the public
  • Wearing a disguise during the commission of an offence
