The Northeast Nova RCMP Major Crime Unit is investigating a suspicious death that occurred in Five Islands.
On January 9, 2023, at approximately 7:05 p.m., Colchester County District RCMP and Cumberland County District RCMP responded to a report of shots fired in the area of Sand Point Hill Ln. and Wharf Rd. in Five Islands. RCMP officers discovered a deceased woman inside a home on Sand Point Hill Ln. The area was secured to preserve evidence and Wharf Rd. was closed at Hwy. 2. RCMP investigators began collecting information and evidence related to the death, which was determined to be suspicious.
RCMP Police Dog Services attended the area to conduct a search, and overwatch for the police dog team was provided by members of the Nova Scotia RCMP Emergency Response Team. RCMP Forensic Identification was also engaged and is providing assistance. The scene was secured overnight and Wharf Rd. continues to be closed as the investigation progresses.
At approximately 8:30 a.m. this morning, Cumberland County District RCMP officers safely took a person of interest into custody.
The investigation continues to be led by the Northeast Nova RCMP Major Crime Unit, with assistance from the Colchester County District RCMP, Cumberland County District RCMP, RCMP Forensic Identification Services and the Nova Scotia Medical Examiners Office.
