Tall Ship Silva Cut Loose In Harbour

At approximately 6:00 am this morning Halifax Regional Police received a call of a tall ship floating in the harbour with no one on it.
This information was passed on to the Coast Guard for response. Later in the morning Halifax Regional Police received a report from the owner of the tall ship Silva reporting that someone had intentionally set the ship free from it’s mooring. Video footage in the area shows a small group of people going on to the ship at approximately 1:30 am. It appears the group then raised one of the sails and untied all of the securing ropes except for one and then left the ship. The ship moved around only being held by the one rope and at around 5:00 am the ship finally broke free and floated out in to the harbour. The ship has since been retrieved and is once again tied up at the dock. At this time there are no descriptions available of the suspects but the investigation is continuing. Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact officers at 490-5016 or anonymously through Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or online at www.crimestoppers.ns.ca.
