Tall Ships in Halifax this weekend

Alex and I headed down to the Tall Ships today and we had a blast. (Really gave me an urge to watch the Pirates of the Caribbean series again, heh.) This is definitely one of the biggest events of the summer – if you have a chance this weekend, I have one word for ya: go!

There is lots of entertainment and things for the kids to do, even without going on the Tall Ships. Face painters, balloon twisters, pirates, bouncy castles, mini-train rides, tattoos, music and more! Here's a sum-up of the highlights for the next two days:

  • public boarding is 10am to 5pm, Saturday and Sunday. Day passes, weekend passes and family passes are available to buy on the waterfront.
  • haligonia.ca is broadcasting live from Summit Plaza for most of the next two days. (I had the pleasure of doing a short Haligonia Kids episode there today!) Music, interviews, giveaways and more!
  • live pirate shows at Alderney Landing at 10am, noon, 2pm, 4pm on Saturday and Sunday, plus Tall Ships, a touch tank, pirate crafts, face painting, treasure dig, bouncy castles and more.
  • over on the Halifax side is where most of the Tall Ships are docked, plus also bouncy castles, a mini-train ride, bungee jump, rock wall and more at Salter Block by Glow Parties, and Razzmatazz will be performing at Pavillion 22 at 11am, 1pm and 2pm on Saturday and Sunday. Also, face painting, tattoos, music, etc all over the waterfront.
  • fireworks at 9:30pm off George's Island on Saturday night.
  • Pancakes! Pancake breakfast at the Historic Properties courtyard from 9am to 11:30am on Saturday. Cost: $3. On Sunday there is a free breakfast at Alderney Landing from 9:30am to 11am.
  • the Parade of Sail will be on Monday from noon to 3pm. Glow Parties will still be set up as well on the Halifax side, from what I understand. For more information on the Parade of Sail, including a link to a map, click here.

For more details about the Tall Ships this weekend, plus their journey in Nova Scotia after they leave here on Monday, visit the Tall Ships Nova Scotia website.
